Medical school expensive, states should help
After college, many students decide to further their education. They either attend a graduate school, or go onto some sort of medical school.
These students are trying to further their education and get the knowledge to hopefully land the job of their dreams.
For some, graduate school isn’t needed and their job can be awaiting them right out of college. But for those who want to work in the medical field are somewhat forced to continue on up to seven more years of school, including residency.
Now, these students are following their dreams to become a future anesthesiologist, nurse, or maybe even an ophthalmologist. But how are these students going to pay for their future? Are they going to take out mass amounts of student loans that will be put on top of undergraduate loans?
I believe that medical students should get their schooling paid for, especially if they are forced to go to an out of state school, because the state they are currently residing in doesn’t have a school for their specific field of medicine.
The state that they are currently residing in should pay for their schooling, if they work in that state for the same amount of years they attended the school.
Yes, I know there are scholarships that can cover this fee, but those are competitive and students may be forced to not go to school because they cannot afford the debt that school would put them in.
Also, there is the option of joining the Armed Forces to get school paid for, but if they choose to do so, they have to fulfill an obligation of service for every year they received the scholarship after graduation.
Although there are these options, what if you do not qualify for the scholarship, or do not want to join the Armed Forces? Are students supposed to give up and find a new dream, or can each state pay the tuition for the student?
If each student were to attend any kind of medical school, free of cost until graduation, he or she should then have to work in the state that paid for their tuition for the number of years the state paid for, and pay the state each year after they get a job in their field.
This way, there would less stress on the student while they were in school to try to find ways to make money, as many medical schools to not allow their students to have jobs while in school.
This would make it possible for more students to attend different types of medical school and not have to give up their dream because of money.
I know this is a stretch, but why can’t it become something that is actually possible? The students have the ability to pay for the schooling, but not until after graduation, and without debt. Their jobs are doing something that was made to help others, so why not help them get to that point?
No student should be worried about whether they can follow their dreams because of money, even students that are not going to medical school.
Money has a control on our society, so we must look into ways to make that end, and this could be the start.
