Siblings choose to attend same school for comfort, familiarity

For brothers Skyler and Nakoah Brown, going to the same college has brought them closer.

Skyler and Nakoah attended the same high school but never really hung out until Nakoah enrolled at Ottawa University where his older brother already attended.

“I like going to the same school as my brother because it gives us a chance to hang out more and bond,” Skyler Brown said. “I like being able to watch out for him.”

As for being roommates, Skyler and Nakoah Brown decided against it.

“If I was my brothers’ roommate I think I would go insane,” Nakoah Brown said. “I would not like it because he is always trying to get in my business enough as it is.”

Although the brothers are not roommates they still spend a lot of time together.

“We do quite a bit together,” Skyler Brown said. “We really like to play racquetball together and we are always in each other’s suites.”

The brothers do not really have any drawbacks of going to the same school, but Skyler Brown does feel a need to protect his brother.

“I always feel responsible for Nakoah,” Skyler Brown said. “I’m always loaning him money and making sure he does not lose his keys or wallet; I just try to keep him out of trouble.”

Haydn Neese, a junior, is really excited for his younger brother Mason to come to Ottawa University next year.

“My brother and I are really close, so I’m excited to be able to spend more time with him and play the guitar,” Neese said. “I’m also going to make sure he stays on the right track.”

Neese and his younger brother are both Ottawa Indian, but Neese thinks a big reason for his brother choosing to attend OU was because of his older brother’s presence.

“My brother is getting recruited for basketball, but I know a big reason was because he wanted to come to the same school as me,” Neese said.

As for living arrangements, Neese and his brother will be living in the same suite but will not be roommates with each other.

“I think living in the same suite is close enough,” Neese said. “I know if we were actual roommates we would get in a lot of fights and arguments.”

Some advice Neese will give to his brother before coming here is to not let fun get in the way of his education.

“I’m going to tell him to not get too carried away by having too much fun because work will build up causing him to get bad grades,” Neese said. “Also, the most important advice, do not do anything too embarrassing on the weekends.”

Twins Taylor and Thomas Compton on the other hand have no problems living together on campus.

“We have lived with each other since birth so it is hard for us to get annoyed with each other,” Taylor Compton said.

The twins spend a lot of their time together, even sharing the same human services major.

“We are best friends who just happen to be brothers as well,” Taylor Compton said.
