Radio station plans for big changes, growth

The fall semester will bring changes for KTJO, OU's student run radio station.

"Shannon Dyer has filled in this year as an advisor but next year there will most likely be a permanent radio adviser that oversees the class indefinitely," Jeffrey Savage, general manager of KTJO said.

Savage looks forward to the changes and is remains positive abou the station.

"We also will be starting to broadcast our radio via the Internet as well as on our 88.9 frequency, which is awesome because it bridges the gap that every radio station in the real world is doing," he said.

But the staff should expect changes as well.

"Hopefully we will have some talented returning radio students along with a fresh crop of recruits," he said. "KTJO will also try and expand its athletic broadcasting from just football and basketball to include sports like soccer, volleyball and in the spring potentially softball and baseball."

The changes will bring a new style to the previous radio from broadcasting to the crew as well.

"We hope to get on air again," David Mino, staff member of KTJO said. "Its been a big setback for the station that we've been off of for so long but we're looking forward to getting back to 88.9."

The radio staff is looking forward to the chance to air again because they have been off for a while and really want these changes to come into effect.

"I don't have real solid answers at this time, but we are working like crazy to have some exciting answers in the fall," said Shannon Dyer.
