Margaret Cho entertains at VooDoo
Margaret Cho is at it again, making people laugh until their faces hurt.
Comedian Margaret Cho performed at Harrah's Voodoo Lounge on Friday. to a packed house of very diverse people. Opening the comedy set was New York's entertaining Ian Harvie.
He joked about his being born transgendered and what it was like coming out to his parents, twice. Harvie told stories about his girlfriend and how he defines his sexuality.
Next to take the stage in his RUN DMC shirt and metallic gold hi-top Chucks was John Roberts from New York City. His acts were hit-and-miss with his different personas
and impersonations.
One of his better acts ivolved a black mullet wig and a jean jacket, he then sang, rapped, and busted out some sweet moves.
His skit that was the biggest failure involved him trying to impersonate a redneck; homophobic comedian wearing a trucker hat and a rattail, the skit lacked humor and didn't make sense. However, he made up for it later when he did songs and skits with Margaret Cho.
Walking out in her adorable outfit of skinny jeans, brown boots, a purple button up, and a vest was the hilarious Margaret Cho.
If you have seen Cho's reality television show "The Cho Show" that aired on VH1 in 2008, then you know the content of her jokes. If not, her jokes are focused in the areas of sexuality, illegal substances,
Asian-American stereotypes and anything that may be offensive.
"People always ask me what it was like to film "Charlie's Angels," I give them a dirty look and say "No! I'm the one from "Grey's Anatomy,"" Cho said when talking about the similarities in Asian-American actors.
Cho said that even though she is a Christian, she is very disappointed in Christianity because of the disapproval of homosexuality because she defines herself as a bisexual and is an activist for gay rights. She then said that she thinks the Pope is a Slytherin from Harry Potter.
Her show was not only comedy, but also included music. Cho sang a song about her dog with Harvie playing the part as her dog.
Cho and Roberts then put on wigs and played the part of their mothers. Cho was dead on with the impersonation of her mother who has been on Cho's reality show.
"I've always wanted to do an encore but I am afraid to go all the way off stage because then people will leave and I will be out here all by myself," Cho said after her last skit.
To end the show with the encore, Harvie and Roberts joined her on the stage for one last song.
Harvie and Roberts were great openers for Cho. They were funny, entertaining and amusing.
Cho was hilarious as usual, she is a great storyteller and her animations make the stories even better; which was obvious by all the laughter.
She is witty and full of energy, which made the show great, and there was never a dull moment.
