Concert will soon hit residental campus
A concert series will soon be hitting the college campus.
"I'm announcing the first in our (hopeful) series of music events coming to the Campus," Ryan Louis, Director of Forensics said.
"It's very exciting to think about because this is an opportunity to synergize all the various aspects of communication study around a single event to put our collective talents together in a real-world context. Because this is a rather large undertaking, I'm trying to put together a task force for this and, possibly, future performances."
Ryan Louis has had experience in music coordination and recently came up with this idea to bring the campus together. He would like to have a concert once every semester, bringing in music acts to invigorate.
He also hopes to bring in jazz artists, poetry and other speakers to campus. This event is co-sponsored by the Awawe Life Center, which is ran by Sarah Ngoh who works in the business office.
"It will be a division and school wide event," said Louis.
This process is also a great opportunity for communication majors to get involved. Ryan is currently putting together a task force and is looking for one person in each concentration who can represent and delegate coordinating responsibilities relating to their respective fields.
These areas include Convergence Media, Film, Media Sales, Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism, Radio, Photography, Business communication and Speech. Ryan says is looking for a student/faculty member to fill each position.
Those who are interested in joining the team are encouraged to attend the meetings held Wednesdays in Atkinson 309.
"My goal is to have a student panel of nine people plus faculty," Louis said.
Joanna Woolens has been chosen to help with filming the event.
"My position is to get coverage on the bands performing to create a music video," she said.
"It will soon be posted on the media web site, and will be promoted that way as well."
Louis is hopeful about making this a tradition on campus.
"This is first of a long line of events," Louis said.
A line of events in hopes of bringing publicity to campus.
"This is something a lot of colleges do," Sara Ngoh, Adawe adviser, said.
"It's something that is not currently consistent on campus but will bring consistency. This will bring a lot of interesting people and publicity for the campus."
This event will be held of March 29th and 30th and will feature the artist Buggin Malone.
