‘Avatar’ dominates movie scene
The movie ‘Avatar' has been nominated in nine categories for the 2010 Academy Awards.
These categories in which the movie is nominated are directing, music (original score), art direction, cinematography, film editing, best picture, sound editing, sound mixing and visual effects.
"The movie has been a complete success since it has hit the theaters and all in all it really is a great movie regardless of what some movie critics say," Muncel Jones said. "I also thought the graphics were awesome."
‘Avatar' is the most successful movie since ‘Titanic' and already has broken box office records. The movie is directed by James Cameron; music composed by James Horner. The movie includes actors/actresses Sigourney Weaver who is scientist Grace, Sam Worthington who is Jake the marine and Zoe Saldena who plays Neytiri.
The movie is based on the new world in which men have extraordinary capabilities. Mankind is destroying their planet and scientist Grace (Sigourney Weaver) studies the planet Pandora, green forest, strange blue inhabitants, the Na'vi and wants some respect for being a scientist. Mission leader Parker is furious and military leader Quaritch is offended.
Jake is sent to the planet Pandora filled with the human-like race with their own unique language and culture. In exchange for a spinal surgery to fix his crippled legs Jake gathers information for the cooperating military unit. Eventually an epic battle for the fate of Pandora begins.
"I have seen the movie twice and I thought it had a nice concept to it and it was very entertaining," Tia Battle said.
According to movie-critics.ew.com the ‘Avatar' movie storyline was lacking and only the 3-dimesional and visual effects is what grabs the viewers attention, and doesn't think that is enough when it comes to a movie especially ‘Avatar.'
However, despite positive reviews from fans and critics, it's a matter of opinion when watching this movie.
"From the previews on TV ‘Avatar' doesn't seem my type of movie and it really wasn't an attention grabber for me," Tonya Bell said.
Despite personal views, the box office numbers have proven it was successful.
