The Most Anticipated Films of 2015
Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper” set off 2015 in the right direction for film. The year has plenty of promise with almost every genre, including the anticipated new Star Wars as well as the sequel to The Avengers.
Romance, comedy, action and sci-fi genres have a lot coming this year and it could be one of the best, or one of the most disappointing years for film.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron, directed by Joss Whedon, is the sequel to the wildly successful comic to film adaptation that premiered all the way back in 2012. Junior Danika Good said she is a huge Avengers/Marvel fan. “They make me wish I was a superhero,” she said.
Fans and students have a short wait, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” is set to be released on May 1.
Suzanne Collins and Jennifer Lawrence fans are excited to finally witness the conclusion of the The Hunger Games series with the film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, directed by Francis Lawrence.
Sophomore Marisa Worthy said that she is really excited to see Mockingjay Part 2. “Even though I did not read the books, I am a huge fan of The Hunger Games, so it will be completely bittersweet to see the final part of the amazing series,” she said.
On November 20 die-hard film and book fans will witness the ending of the massively successful series.
Other action films such as The Fantastic 4, directed by Josh Trank, and Robert Schwentke’s The Divergent Series: Insurgent are set to release later this year.
The Disney epic series Star Wars will be releasing the long-awaited installment Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams, on December 18.
The reboot of the Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World, directed by Collin Trevorrow, is set to be released to theaters this summer on June 12.
Junior Regan Aeschilman said she grew up with both of these franchises and the reboots look “absolutely amazing! I’m so excited for them!,” she said.
Choir, theater, and Fat Amy lovers around the world are getting their bodies ready for Pitch Perfect 2, directed by Elizabeth Banks. The ‘aca-amazing’ comedy is set to be released May 15. Senior Katee Hinkle said the first movie was hilarious and had really great music. “I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this one over and over,” she said.
The adult novel Fifty Shades of Grey finally receives its film adaptation and it is set to be released this Valentine's Day. Other romance movies to be released this year are Lee Toland Krieger’s The Age of Adaline, as well as Love, Rosie, directed by Christian Ditter.
The social-media oriented horror flick directed by Levan Gabriadze titled Unfriended will be released on July 20. Other horror films include Crimson Peak, The Lazarus Effect as well as sequels to the popular Paranormal Activity and Insidious films.
There will also be a reboot of the Amityville, Sinister and Frankenstein films respectively titled Amityville: The Awakening, Sinister 2, and Victor Frankenstein.
With 2014 ending with extreme success from American Sniper, The Hobbit, and Into the Woods, hopefully the hype from 2015 was not overdone as previous years have been. It is yet to be determined but 2015 has the potential to be an amazing year for film.
