Football wins conference at Tabor College
The Braves defeated the Tabor College Bluejays 17 to 15 to earn the program’s 21st conference title on Saturday night, qualifying for its sixth straight NAIA Championship Series.
The Braves came back from a 15 to 8 deficit, scoring 9 points in the last quarter with three field goals by senior Dominic Sigala.
The defense, on the other hand, kept the Bluejays scoreless in the last quarter, to give the offense an opportunity to react and bring home the title.
Now, the Braves (9-2) will face number four seed Morningside College (9-1) in Iowa on Saturday, in the first round of the NAIA Championship Series.
Women’s Soccer takes title from KWU for second year in a row
The Ottawa University Lady Braves beat the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes 3-2 in shootouts after tying 1-1 in the regular time, and after two scoreless overtimes, to win their second straight KCAC Tournament championship.
The Coyotes took the lead with a goal by Breanna Bodiford at the minute 54, and they were four minutes away from taking the game.
However, first-year student Samantha Mendoza, assisted by first-year student Claudia Moreno, tied it up at the minute 86.
The goalkeeper, sophomore Erin Stengel, was the hero in the shootouts, with two saves.
The Lady Braves finished their season with a 13-2-5 record, and qualified to the NAIA National Tournament. The games will be announced on Sunday.
Volleyball loses KCAC Conference Tournament final vs. KWU
The Lady Braves lost 3-0 (14-25; 13-25; 21-25) in the final game of the KCAC Conference Tournament on Saturday night to Kansas Wesleyan University.
Sophomore Keri Tanking led the team with 11 kills and 13 digs, and junior Christa Hill led the team with 23 assists. Senior Allie Arnold had six kills, six digs and six blocks.
This loss ends the Lady Braves’ season, with a 24-11 overall record, finishing third in the KCAC.
