If you ask me: Jersey Shore showcases bad behavior
A few nights ago I was watching Jersey Shore. I know what you're thinking. Don't judge me. I couldn't find the remote.
Ok, the truth is I turned to it. But not on the night it premiered though. Like days later in re runs. Not that I have to explain myself to you thank you very much.
Anyway I'm watching Jersey Shore and I start thinking that the worst examples of what our generation should be don't come from the girl with the orange tan, or the guy who can't keep his shirt on.
Nope. They lie with what wouldseemingly be the most "normal" people in the house: Ronnie and Sam.
First of all these two are boring. I would rather watch grass grow than to ever watch anything dedicated solely to them. Literally lie on the ground and stare at grass growing in real time.
And I don't want to call people dumb because I don't know them but … they don't seem that smart. All they do is lie in bed together not talking and then they argue. Even their fights are lame.
But that isn't the worst part. The thing I found myself so grossed out by is the fact that they are painfully codependant. In the times that I've watched this show I don't think I've ever seen one of them form a full idea alone.
She follows him around like a puppy. Doesn't talk to anyone else and has convinced herself that no one else likes her and everyone is jealous. She is envious of his enjoying carnival games. He encourages her anger toward the other cast mates and regularly plays both sides of the fence.
Don't misunderstand me it is perfectly fine to be your significant other's best friend. However I don't think that it is healthy to be their only friend.
You have to cultivate a life and feelings that aren't attached to them so that you don't melt into one sickening pod person.
Everyone has a friend like that. Once they get into a relationship they suddenly lose their mind. All they can talk about and think about is that person. We all know this is only cute for all of five minutes and then its like "Really?!"
It has to be exhausting to live like this. No wonder Ronnie and Sam lie in bed silently. They don't have much to talk about. They can't discuss their day because they are together every waking second.
It's a vicious cycle. You're best friends. Spend all of your time together. You become boring and annoying to your other friends. Soon you're one another's only friend.
No one should want this. Not only does it make you a boring, spray tanned loser. It also means that you are a bad friend. You betray the people closest to you at the drop of a hat for any semblance of a relationship. What is it about couples that make them think everyone is jealous of them anyway? I wonder if I do it to and don't ever notice … nah. I'm much too cool.
I digress. My point here is this: Jersey Shore is mind numbingly delicious dumb television and codependant relationships are from the devil. So lets all just keep our eyes open.
Try to remember that its not likely that your friends are jealous. They're just irritated with all the foolishness. Call me crazy but sometimes I'd like to hang out with MY friend. Not so and so's girlfriend.
I guess what I'm saying is that the road to happiness is a complicated one. But just because you've … forked doesn't mean that you can't take different paths to the same place.
