If you ask me: Friendships are most important
At this stage in our lives we have, or at least should have, learned to juggle dozens of different worlds and relationships at once.
There is your family, your friends, bosses, professors, and then those people that you've yet to meet but attempt to live in an impressive way just in case.
Of all these I think friendships are the most important. We can say whatever we want about parents and boyfriends or girlfriends. Real friends are forever and in this "Real World" generation not too many people know how to be a good friend any more. That's unfortunate because I don't trust anyone who doesn't have at least one good friend. I would never date them.
I doubt I'll commit to spending any long periods of time with them because they clearly haven't figured out how to treat people. Also, a part of me thinks they may be a killer but that's a story for another time.
I understand why some people don't have it together. All we do is watch reality TV where people sit in a house together, talk about one another and then go out at night.
Everything seems fine because by the end of the episode or the season, there's some tear drenched apology and heart felt good bye. Yes this is real life. But its real life with editing.
We also need to remember that these people aren't real friends and they are there for drama and entertainment. We can't do the same thing and get away with it.
Even I, the girl who doesn't like the word "friend," (it's giving me a headache to keep saying it) have a few people who I consider close to me.
Everyone has to have an inner circle. When your partner is on your nerves or someone does something to hurt your feelings or you just need to figure something out, I doubt you call the person you're dating. That's what friends are for.
Do you realize that our friends probably hear every thought we have at some point and they still talk to us? They know before our families know, before the boyfriend or girlfriend knows, my friends even know before I know sometimes. That's dedication.
Just read some of the texts you send your best friend. They're crazy and would probably be annoying to most people but if you have a good friend they deal with it.
My best friend gets the most random texts of all time. Example: "Merrm!" I actually say this to her. And like a good friend she responds. Not with "What the frickin frack is that?!"
But she entertains my random genius. She is the reason why I appear normal to boys. I say that stuff to her so it doesn't slip out (that often) around them.
So, the point here is that friends are our foundation for life. You'll never have good relationships if you have crappy friendships. We use our friends as a buffer between the world and our true selves. You don't believe me?
Try sending your crush the same texts you would normally send your friends just for one day. They'll probably freak out. And that's fine.
That's why you have friends. But if you don't have at least one good friend, get one. Or else you'll never need any of the other info I normally write about in this space.
