Blink -182, Weezer, Taking Back Sunday headline
Thousands of screaming fans, high energy, cool night air, adrenaline rushing, the smell of illegal substances and music ringing through the venue. It must be a concert.
For the fourth time, 96.5 The Buzz hosted Buzz Beachball, one of the largest alternative rock shows in the area (Vans Warped Tour always takes the cake for being the biggest and best). The Buzz hosted the show on Sept. 4 at Capital Federal Park at Sandstone Amphitheater in Bonner Springs.
With the many bands playing and 17,000 fans in attendance, two stages were necessary. The second stage featured two local bands: MacLethal and Republic Tigers. Also on the second stage were Billy Boy on Poison, Stellastarr and Matt & Kim.
With their exciting personalities, Matt & Kim, a two person band from Brooklyn, NY, was the star of the second stage. The duo, Matt Johnson on the keyboard/ vocals and Kim Schifino on the drums/ vocals, was the last band to play on the second stage before the headliners took the main stage. Their Indie Pop/ dance style music can be found on their sophomore album, "Grand," which was released earlier this year and includes their hit "Daylight."
Playing the main stage were Chester French, Company of Thieves, Von Bondies, Taking Back Sunday, Weezer and Blink-182.
Rocking the main stage early in the show was Company of Thieves from Chicago, Ill. The band is known for their single "Oscar Wilde" as well as up and coming songs "Pressure" and "Old Letters." These songs can be found on their new album "Ordinary Riches."
Weezer is the only returning performer to the Buzz Beachball. Weezer headlined the show at the first Beachball in 2005. The band entertained fans with their on-stage trampoline and hits "Beverly Hills," "Hash Pipe," "Undone- The Sweater Song" and their new single "I Want You To." Their seventh album, "Raditude" will drop in October.12
