Bateman shines as the voice of OU
"And that's another three point shot for the OU Lady Braves!"
This is the voice of sport's announcer Gary Bateman. His energetic voice keeps spectators at football and basketball games intrigued and informed.
"I make sure fans stay updated on what's going on before and during the game," Bateman said.
The announcements also seem to help those who are performing at the games.
" I really like the announcements, even though I'm a cheerleader. They help me know when to cheer sometimes," Kersten Kastler, freshmen, said.
Bateman has a very important job. During sporting events he makes all announcements for both teams. Sometimes, this can be difficult for him.
" The hardest part is balancing rooting for Braves and being non-bias," Bateman
said. "Because I am a Braves fan."
Bateman enjoys both football and basketball, but he said that football is more difficult to announce. However, some students believe that he does a great job at announcing football.
" I like football announcements better because there is more happening, but the announcer makes everything clear, Rachel Zamaitis, junior, said."
Although Bateman gets paid for announcing at games he said that it's more of a method of relaxation for him.
You can find him daily in the financial aid office. He also works at KOFO, Ottawa's
local radio station.
While working for KOFO, he interviews OU coaches and players on his radio show. He said that this is where he really gets to know the players.
However, although this job may have not been planned, Bateman is very content with his job as OU's game time announcer.
" I'm glad to help out," Bateman said.
