Upcoming Winter blues hurt college experience, can be helped
Now that winter is just around the corner, there are a few things that must change in order to adapt in this college environment.
Now that you’ve been attending Ottawa University for about a month and a half, you should already have all your textbooks, know your way around campus, understand how to check your grades, and might have had midterms by now.
Some of these duties might have been a breeze to accomplish. Maybe for some it ended up being a challenge or just too hard. Either way, you have experienced college anxiety at its finest and now know what it will take to overcome it.
Now that winter is approaching, it is possible that there may be a snow, which will sometimes result in a snow day. Snow days can be very valuable days during a school year because it can be a day to relax, organize, clean, or even catch up on assignments.
It can be a day where you can go meet up with a couple of friends and study for that next test. Possibly, it can be a day where you just sit there and read like a maniac.
Another change that is going to have to be made is your mood. As surprising as it may sound, your mood will change drastically due to the weather change. It is known that you could get irritated more quickly than normal.
One way to overcome this situation is to try to attend any school events on campus. It’s good to leave the dorm every once in a while to go talk among friends, move around, and to keep yourself from going insane.
Another option is to be more involved in the upcoming holidays. I’m not telling you to put up a six-foot Christmas tree in your dorm room, but maybe you could put up little decorations like lights, spider webs, figurines and little pumpkins.
The last change that can be made is more for the people who don’t like to leave their comfort zone: try to keep in touch with friends and family back home. There is nobody better for you to talk to than those with whom you are truly comfortable and who won’t steer you down the wrong path.
If you don’t want to talk to anyone back home, got talk with your Adawe advisor. They are very helpful for those stressful moments of test anxiety and homesickness and they want nothing more than for you to succeed. They are here to make this experience go by as smoothly as possible. Don’t let winter get the best of you and ruin the college experience.
