Campus Ministries Profile
There are many things that make Ottawa University great. It’s not only the beautiful campus full of amazing students, but we are a proud Christian Liberal Arts University. Affiliated with American Baptist, we believe that striving for positivity and active leaders will make our school and the city of Ottawa a better place. On campus, we have a huge chapel, which is usually used for guest speakers and our semester convocation events. Ottawa is full of significance, and our Campus Ministries are one main way prove why we are such a great school.
Every Thursday during the semester at 11 a.m., the school hosts “Chapel,” which is located at the Student Union in the Hasty Conference Room. All students are welcome to be part of Chapel, which features worshiping bands invited to play live music. Each session is a good time for advice, others to tell their stories and an opportunity to hear different testimonies. The biggest goal is to find Jesus and define his purpose.
Campus Ministries loves to give back and support the community. Reaching out and becoming role models is what Ottawa University Campus Ministries stands for. At the beginning of each year around November, “Braving Discipleship” is put into action. This is a program that invites high school students, youth groups and bands to enjoy the greatness of Christianity. Motivational speakers are invited to come speak the word of God and express positivity.
The best thing about Campus Ministries is the student involvement. Usually senior coordinators host events and community service activities.
“It’s more about our lifestyle then the actual club,” says Nicole Brey. “It’s about giving back and becoming a better person.”
Every Thursday at 8 p.m., OU’s LaMoine Tatum hosts a bible study located in the Bennet Lobby on the first floor. All are welcomed to come and learn more about God.
For the month of December, Campus Ministry hosts an event called “12 days of Christmas.” This event is held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Atkinson basement. TAU (Theology Action Understanding) puts this event on to help high schoolers find their faith. Others are invited to bring in different Christmas crafts which is then donated to those in need.
Throughout the year, students involved in the Campus Ministry program have two different sessions for “Peer Ministry.” One session is held during the fall and the other is in the spring. This is a time to connect better with others and make new friends.
We are all blessed to have a school that strives to seek the word of God. Big thanks to Campus Ministries for all your hard work. Without you Ottawa University wouldn’t be the same.
