Phillips: When college trips are offered, go; travel will never be as cheap or as much fun

Travel is never going to be this cheap.

Many groups at OU travel the country and even the world on trips to various places. Athletic teams travel to away meets and games.

This year, the Cross Country team had the opportunity to spend a long weekend in Minnesota.

Although they had a large meet they were running in, they got to have some fun as well doing things like white water rafting. They have also gone to Texas.

Sports teams are not the only groups with the opportunity to travel.

Last year, the advertising strategies class went to Washington, D.C. They had the unique opportunity to present an advertising presentation for the U.S.S. Sequoia Presidential Yacht's anniversary...on the actual yacht!

I personally had the opportunity to take a trip to Louisville, Kentucky for the National College Media Convention.

Here I learned a lot about improving my journalism technique. I also enjoyed sightseeing.

The Newspaper staff has attended previous conferences in Austin, Texas and Kansas City.

Ottawa University also offers study abroad programs for trips outside the United States.

You can learn about different countries, other cultures. In previous years, students and their advisers have been able to go to Australia and Scotland.

Students can also receive scholarships to go to locations around the world.

When students get involved on their college campus, many opportunities such as these present themselves.

It is beneficial to take advantage of these chances as often as possible.

Whenever you take part in activities, classes and clubs, you can gain knowledge and experiences through the trips offered that many people never get in a lifetime.

You can grow as a person and become more aware of the world around you. Unless you hate traveling, these trips are a lot of fun as well.

The opportunity to travel is among one of the greatest experiences young adults can gain in my opinion.

To me, location does not matter. Even if the destination does not seem like the most exciting place to travel to, you can still gain knowledge of what is out there.

Each road traveled brings new occurrences and memories that you will never forget.

You will look back on experiences like these years later. You will have those memories forever.
