Ottawa University: Home, sweet home
At times, it is very true that Ottawa University does not feel like college but more like high school. To me though, it is the perfect fit.
My best friend goes to Kansas State University. Although it sounds like she is having a great time there, I would not trade it for my time OU.
When considering where I wanted to go to college, I couldn’t imagine leaving my family behind. Since my mom works here and I made the dance team, I knew this is where I was meant to be.
Since it is a small campus, I get one-on-one time with my teachers, building important relationships. I also feel I can learn better. I am not afraid to ask questions during class, and I know they always make time for me.
Even though the course work is tough, I always know I can count on my teacher or student tutors for help.
Being able to walk into the Student Affairs Office and have personal relationships with every one of them makes me very happy. No matter what, they always make time to talk to me or anyone else in need.
I love that since it is such a small campus I know almost everyone who goes to school here. Making friends is so easy because as a campus, we all bond together.
OU is unlike Kansas State University, where you can walk across campus at the same time every day and see someone new. That does sound cool so you can make new friends, but you will not gain the relationships you do here.
Since my high school was so small, I knew I would have culture shock if I went to a big university. Going here let me find out who I am instead of getting wrapped up with all the others around me.
I probably would not have been on a dance team if I went to a big university, and that is something that meant the world to me. I am so grateful to be a part of my school dance team. Dancing is something I am passionate about and love to do.
To me, going to school in the same town I grew up in means I get to go see my family whenever I want, which is a major perk.
All in all, my decision to go to a OU has definitely paid off, and I would recommend it to anyone.
