Doomsday theories are hogwash
December 21, 2012 will be the day that the entire planet holds a collective breath.
I'm not even sure where to start with this. There are a billion reasons why there are things wrong with our world today; from the ozone to the ice caps melting, not to mention a bad U.S. economy, a lot of people out there are ready to condemn the planet.
So, three years from next month the Mayan calendar will end, and people think that we'll be invaded by aliens, the world will be destroyed and/or the second coming of Christ will be born.
Also, the universe is supposed to align perfectly, causing all kinds of physical problems within the planet.
Is this all really going to happen? Your guess is as good as mine.
With all these theories on the Internet and TV, it's still a little hard for me to buy into the whole idea that the world could end so soon.
There's even a new movie out called 2012. The planet falls apart due to mass plate movement, creating widespread chaos. It really brings to life a scary reality of what may be to come.
What makes this possible event for people so frightening is the idea that we're powerless and that we don't know what or who to believe.
If the world's going to end, you would think the government would not tell the public.
People would panic, knowing there is nothing they can do to save themselves.
Some theories I saw on the Internet describe 2012 as being a time of great change in the world.
There is a thought that the North and South Poles would switch in positions, which indeed would cause some dramatic changes, but that would be a process that takes much longer than three years to complete.
I mentioned earlier that the Mayan calendar will end its Great Cycle, but how much can we take out of that, since the Mayans obviously aren't even around today?
I also read that it was a great achievement for them to reach the end of a cycle, so who started saying it's a doomsday thing?
I think people are looking way too much into the whole 2012 conspiracy. Dec. 21, 2012, which is 1,114 days from this publication date, will be another day, just like today.
I have been wrong before and I'm no expert, but there's just not enough convincing evidence out there.
