Brown Hall home to frustration, opportunities for new students
I live in Brown hall and at first I didn’t believe the saying that it was the party hall until I realized that the nightlife is pretty much the same as the day. There are still people showering roaming round the halls and playing games late into the night.
My impression was that in a week or so it would slow down. I thought that because there are no parents around, the newer students are enjoying their freedom.
My opinion on this matter is most likely to most others’ distaste or dissatisfaction, but I believe there should be more rules in place as to make it a more suitable dorm. The walls are thin; almost everything can be heard, making it difficult to sleep.
There should also be a rule about what time the showers can be used. I believe with too much freedom students soon forget the reason they are here. There should also be a way for everyone to be able to watch what they want besides sports and for others to be able to play Ping-Pong or pool besides the ones who get it all the time.
I am also most likely being biased about this because I am a light sleeper and because I don’t watch sports. Also, I have not had the chance to play Ping-Pong or pool very often, but I also know that I am not the only one with the same problems.
It also does not help that I am an introvert and being able to ask to play games or even changing the channel is something I don’t usually do. So my other opinion is have a way for other loners like me to have a way to get to know others in the dorm.
Though I say all this, Brown is actually a very nice place. It is full of kind and caring people. Almost every time you enter the hall, you can see someone holding a door open for someone else and there are plenty of smiling faces to be seen. I do not know how other dorms are, but I think there are equal parts that are negative and positive about Brown.
The people who live here make the positives highly out-weigh the negatives. Brown is also a dorm that I believe to be a great place for freshmen to grow into their own and start adapting to college life. There are faults in the dorm, but what place doesn't have them? It is now quieting down in the dorm and, I believe, with a little more time, it will soon be a place someone can call home until you leave for a new dorm or housing arrangement.
