Fury vs Wilder: Fury takes the crown
Last month, boxing witnessed one of the most hyped up fights of all time.
Deontay Wilder, who before this fight had a record of 40-0, would be taking on Tyson Fury for the second time. Fury, an England native, had a record of 27-0 was considered an underdog coming into this fight.
The first fight between these two took place December 1, 2018; the fight ended in a draw after a controversial ending. After months of training and the hype building, during the fight, Fury boxed arguably the best match of his entire career, catching Wilder off guard early on. Fury, throughout the fight, proved that he was overall the better fighter. With the world watching, after seven rounds, Fury, also known as, “The Gypsy King,” defeated Wilder, leaving many people shocked.
The biggest thing that people take away from this fight is that Fury is a genius. Before the fight, Fury claimed that he was going to come at Wilder aggressively and very quickly. Fury says and does a lot of things, so to many fans and even his opponents, it was hard to find it believable. But this is what makes Fury a genius, you never know what he is going to, and many people believe that by doing this, he got inside Wilder’s head.
As soon as the first round started, it was clear that Fury was telling the truth about coming out aggressively. He threw Wilder off of his game so much that it made it seem like he was confused standing in that ring. Wilder was battered and off balance by Fury’s punches that never seemed to stop coming. While it was clear who was the better boxer, and who was going to win, you can’t take away the fact that Wilder fought like a champion. Wilder continued to fight and get up over and over again until his team ended the fight by forfeiting. During the post match interviews both men were very respectful to each other and it was an all around good environment.
Now, the Gypsy King is back on top of the boxing world, and there are rumors about a third fight between these two powerhouses. Will Fury come out on top again in fight three? Or will Wilder come prepared and take back his throne? While we don’t know the answers to those questions, we do know one thing: the boxing world is about to get very interesting.
