Kendall and Kylie Jenner's Game

My 5 Praises and Regrets

The Kardashian/Jenner families have made themselves known all over the world as fashion and style icons. Whether you like them or not, odds are you know at least something about them and are somewhat tapped into their life.

In June of 2014, Kim Kardashian released her mobile game, “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” where you get to virtually insert yourself into Kim’s world.

Last week Kendall and Kylie Jenner released their own version of a mobile game called “Kendall and Kylie.” In this game, you virtually insert yourself into Kendall and Kylie’s world as the new kid California.

The game instantly went viral and seems to be a huge hit with fans of Kim’s game. A majority of my teammates play Kendall and Kylie’s new game, and spend entire van rides playing and discussing it.

As an anti-fan of the Kardashians/Jenners, I went against my better judgement and downloaded the game just to see what all the fuss was about. Here are five conclusions I came to after playing “Kendall and Kylie.”

1. The game isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

OK, I’ll admit it. I was ashamed of myself for caving and downloading the game. I have given my roommates such a hard time for playing it. While it is not my favorite, and I can’t say that I will play it all the time, it is actually kind of fun, if you’re into the virtual fame and money kind of thing. I don’t really see the point in the game, but it isn’t a bad, mindless way to pass time.

2. The entire point of the game is to be the most popular.

You start off in Santa Monica, California, with celebrity dreams and a job at a salon. You instantly make friends with a coworker who invites you to a concert that night. You just happen to meet Kendall and Kylie at the concert and become instant friends. The sisters even agree to help you save your salon by posting videos getting “glammed up” in your salon.

Basically, they help you gain followers and get boyfriends by posting vlogs and social media posts with you. It sounds shallow, but are we really surprised? You earn money by hanging out with certain people at certain events and by doing photoshoots. So, essentially, you are living the life of a Kardashian?

3. You run out of energy, and I can’t decide if that’s good or bad.

Actually, it is good and bad. You can’t do much once you run out of energy but sit and wait for more energy. You get one energy point every two minutes, and most tasks take between one and five energy points. So, while it’s annoying that you can’t play the game for hours at a time, it gives you an excuse to step away and be productive. I guess your level of annoyance by this depends on your level of addiction.

4. This game is nothing like real life.

The entire game revolves around doing photoshoots and attending events to earn money, social media followers and K Gems. These help you gain popularity and buy stuff. You earn accomplishments like “Make it Rain,” “Center of Attention” and “Looking Fab.” In my opinion, it revolves around an unrealistic, materialistic and shallow world. But that’s just my small-town-Kansas opinion.

5. It is a great way to kill time.

I ended up spending way more time playing this game than I thought I would. If you need something to do while riding in the car or waiting for class to start, it’s not a bad idea. Since you can only have a limited amount of energy, it helps you limit your playing time.

My overall conclusion: If you are into the whole “virtual life of fame and fortune” kind of thing, “Kendall and Kylie” is great for you. I’m sure you can open tons of virtual doors once you hit the 100K club. If you prefer games with strategy or action, “Kardashians” is probably not the best search when downloading your next mobile app.
