Off-season Training
OTTAWA-- During the spring semester at Ottawa University, certain sports teams prepare for the coming fall season while in their offseason. There is no time for rest for athletes during the spring. Almost all the sports at Ottawa have offseason training, and football is said to be one of the worst.
Dayvon Dunn broke down the offseason for football. On Mondays they run at 6:15 a.m. then lift during the afternoon. There are two groups for lift, one at 2:45 p.m. and the last group at 4:20 p.m. Four days out of the week they lift weights with a rest day on Wednesday. Furthermore depending on what day it is depends on the type of lift. Monday and Thursday are leg day while Tuesday and Friday are upper body.
“Regular squats and one leg split squats are the most painful and hardest lifts,” Dunn said.
He continued on about the tightness you get in your legs after the lift is over. In addition, how both those lifts make your legs feel weak also makes it hard to walk or even stretch afterwards.
Dunn talked about how the offseason workouts challenge you mentally not just physically. He basically said sometimes you think about quitting while you’re lifting but it’s all a mindset.
“Trying to balance school and offseason training is very dreadful because of how tired we are after the workouts,” Dunn said.
