Parking Opportunity?
Throughout this special year here in Ottawa University many changes have been made to modernize this successful institution.
One of the bigger changes that has been made to the campus, is the new edition of the cafeteria as well as the developing Gibson Student Center, which will be completed this summer.
Even though these changes seem like a lot and also help the image of the modernized campus, I feel that the university needs to start looking for new projects that will help the growing student body, as well as make the campus more spacious.
Earlier this week I was confronted by a member of the Board of Trustees and he wanted to know certain questions I had about the campus and what they could do to peak our interest.
The first question I thought of and I feel a lot of people have been asking, is what should be done about the parking situation.
Even though many people complain and say we should get more parking spots, I truly believe that instead of having more spots built and taking up more land, one of the sections either behind the Hull Center or where the Myer library currently is, should be made into a parking structure about three levels high.
Even though this seems like a more urban development, I feel that it will help our parking situation tenfold as well as be able to hold more people on campus events.
I also feel it would be a good addition because for those certain spots is at a good distance for students to get to their car and not have it be a hassle.
With it being parking structure, cars will not get weathered down as much. When I brought up that idea to him he simply mentioned that parking would have to be at a higher fee and at the same time would take a whole lot longer to build then what we think.
Even though he brought up those points I still believe it be the right move for our campus. What do you think should be done?
