Hunger Games: A real-life story?
The Hunger Games trilogy, by Suzanne Collins, impacted its audience since 2008. After its rising to the film industry, Collins’s pieces got my attention in a very particular way: Does this trilogy portray a realistic face of socialism?
Socialism is a political and economic theory that promotes the equal distribution of products and goods managed by the community itself. In other words, the World Socialist Movement defines socialism as the radical idea of sharing.
I have examined and compared the different faces of socialism in different settings. Analyzing Canadian socialism is not the same as analyzing Cuban socialism, for example.
In these settings, the movement clearly changes facets and even theories. Let me show you how drastic this is.
Canadian socialism is, in my opinion, the ideal kind of socialism, in which everybody is bumped up by the opportunity of having a better income.
In Cuba, however, people just now as of 2015 started having passport to be able to travel. They have to stand in line for hours to get food, they do not have full access to high-speed internet, freedom of speech, and have extremely low or no salary, and the list goes on…
This is what I mean when I say that The Hunger Games portrays the socialism that most countries live with. In the films, we see a kind of socialism that is more likely to be the Cuban, rather than the Canadian.
It concerns me that dictators like the Castros attempt to lie to the world by bragging about how good socialism is. To me, this is absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful. How do political leaders whose countries are starving dare to say that their facet of socialism is good?
The Hunger Games actually portrays more aspects of a savage communist government than socialist ideals. This is what I call “the hidden devil”. Let’s stop lying to ourselves and recognize the truth that is passing in front our eyes.
Mass media communications such as books and films have the power to bring new ideas and hidden concepts to our minds. I strongly believe that Collins had much more to communicate than just an intense, well-written novel.
Is the trilogy a sign of how some countries really live nowadays? I believe so. The more aware we are of the reality, the more chances we have to avoid it in the future in our own countries.
I am well aware that you or me might not have the power to change other countries’ ideals, but I do believe we can prevent or change the reality of our own. Please, dear young student, do not let your life go in front of you without realizing that you could have been an active citizen. I personally pray for the US to never go in those roads.
Believe me, it is heartbreaking to see your beloved land break apart in the clogs of evil people.
Think about it. Would you like to live in a world like the one in The Hunger Games?.. Exactly. Stay informed, positive and active. #YoungPower #GodBlessAmerica
