Exciting Game-winning Shot in Wilson Field House
The Ottawa University men's basketball team beat Friends University 73-72 on Thursday night in Wilson Field House.
Junior guard Marshon Norfleet hit a jumper in the lane with one second on the clock to give the Braves a victory.
The game started out slow with the Friends University Falcons leading most of the first half. Towards the end of it, the Braves took a 34-30 lead into the locker room thanks to a basket from senior center Alex Lundry.
Friends opened the second half on an 11-5 run, taking a 41-39 lead with 16 minutes left in regulation. The Braves would eventually tie it up 50-50 thanks to Lundry’s effort.
Friends was leading 66-65 with 2 minutes left on the clock, but the Braves regained the lead with a free throw and a basket by Lundry and the score was 68-66.
The Falcons then scored four straight, retaking the lead, 70-68, but Norfleet's three-pointer at the one-minute mark put the Braves up 71-70.
Then, Friends hit a jumper with 45 seconds left on the clock that gave them a 72-71 lead. On the Braves next trip down the floor a three-point shot was missed by Norfleet and Friends rebounded the ball with 19 seconds on the clock.
The Braves were forced to foul, sending Friends to the line for a 1-and-1. They missed and the Braves put the ball in Norfleet's hands with 13 seconds on the clock.
Norfleet drove the lane and put the shot up. The ball rattled in, giving the Braves a 73-72 lead with 1.7 seconds on the clock. Friends had a shot from just beyond the half court line, but it was short and the Braves took the 73-72 victory.
Norfleet led the braves with 20 points. Senior Adam Hasty scored 12 points and finished with seven rebounds and four assists, and Lundry came off of the bench to finish the night with a double-double; he scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds.
