The Importance of Galetine's Day
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, people are focusing specifically on their significant other. NBC television series “Parks and Recreation” offers a fun alternative or addition.
This celebration is called “Galentine’s Day.” Leading character Leslie Knope portrayed by Amy Poehler, describes this event as it’s only the best day of the year. “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies,” Poehler says on the Galentine’s Day episode of “Parks and Recreation”.
Galentine’s Day is held every February 13 and it is a fun gathering of friends to celebrate friendships instead of relationships. Of course, relationships can be celebrated the following day if one desires.
What are some tips to a successful Galentine’s Day? Here are a few.
- No boyfriends or girlfriends. Period. This is an event for friends. There is an entire day dedicated to this group the next day. Relax and have some sweet, sweet friendship bonding time.
- Create personal gifts for each friend that will be attending. It does not have to be large, just a simple little personalized gift so that they know how much their friendship means.
- Meet at some food-oriented establishment. Eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner with your friends while exchanging gifts sounds like a dream come true, does it not?
- Prepare games for the group to play. This could be an opportunity for friends to meet friends. With get-to-know-each-other games, the entire group could bond together. You can also just play Cards Against Humanity.
- Get crafty. Bring a bunch of art supplies, a prompt for an art project, and go at it Da Vinci style.
- Release your inner Leslie Knope. Go completely overboard and over the top. Make it a fun occasion for you and your friends.
There is still time before this Friday’s Galetine’s Day, so start a group message and plan a nice little get together for all of your gal-pals.
