Football defeats Friends University and wins KCAC conference
The Braves beat the Friends University Falcons 42-7 on Saturday afternoon on People’s Bank Field to assure a share in the KCAC regular season title.
The Braves (8-2, 7-1 in the KCAC) are one game in front of the Falcons in the standings, and will win the conference if they beat the Tabor College Bluejays on Saturday.
If the Braves lose to Tabor and the Falcons beat the University of St. Mary, they will both share the KCAC championship.
Volleyball wins on senior night on Wednesday, loses on three on Saturday
The Lady Braves defeated the McPherson Bulldogs 3-0 (25-7; 25-18; 25-12) on Wednesday night on Wilson Field House to earn their eighth straight win.
Later, on Saturday, they fell 0-3 (22-25; 16-26; 21-25) against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in Salina, to close out their regular season with a 22-10 (15-3 in the KCAC) record.
The Lady Braves will host Tabor College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Wilson Field House for the KCAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
Women’s Soccer closes season with a win, men lose in the KCAC Quarterfinals
The Lady Braves defeated the Friends University Falcons 3-0 to close their regular season schedule with 11 wins, 2 losses and 5 ties (7-0-2 in conference). Junior Morgan Trupp and first-year student Caroline Jenkins, twice, scored the goals.
Now, the Lady Braves will host the Sterling College Warriors for the semifinals of the KCAC Conference tournament on Thursday afternoon at Hummer Park in Topeka, Kan.
On the other hand, the men’s soccer team’s season ended with a 3-2 loss to the Bethany College Swedes in the KCAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
With this loss, Ottawa closed the season with 3 wins, 15 losses and 1 tie (3-5-1 in the KCAC).
Women’s Cross Country qualifies for Nationals
The Lady Braves finished second in the KCAC Cross Country Meet to earn their spot in the NAIA Cross Country National Championship for the second year in a row.
The Lady Braves had four runners finishing in the top 15 of the race. These four runners were senior Chelsea Fullerton, sophomore Jordan Calderwood and first-year students Christian Provence and Chisholm Branscum.
The NAIA Cross Country Meeting will take place at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday Nov. 22.
Men’s and women’s basketball win in home openers
The Lady Braves defeated the Grace University Royals 92-45 in their home opener in Wilson Field House on Friday night to get their first win of the season, moving their record to 1-1.
Senior Mikayla Skidmore led the Lady Braves with 16 points and 9 assists and sophomore Ashley Romig led the team with 9 rebounds.
The next game for the Lady Braves will be on Friday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. against Baker University during the KCAC/HAAC Classic hosted at the University of Saint Mary.
The men’s team defeated Haskell Indian Nations University 78-57 during their first home game, winning their second straight game; the last time the team started 2-0 was in 2007.
The Braves were led by senior Adam Hasty, junior Preston Oakes, and senior Colin Nichols. Hasty scored 11 points and had 3 assists, 2 steals and 5 rebounds. Oakes had 11 points and 7 rebounds, and finally, Nichols scored 10, with 8 rebounds.
The Braves will be facing Peru State College on Friday, Nov. 14 at 3 pm and Baker University on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 3pm during the KCAC/HAAC Classic with the Lady Braves.
