Roseberry: Buy movies for memories, keep experiences

By Amanda Roseberry

I can't bear to watch a movie for the first time and give it back.

Heck, I can barely leave a movie theater without wanting to immediately go back and buy another ticket.

To me, a movie is so much more than something to watch. Each one means something.
There's always a particular memory to accompany each movie.

I remember my first date. We watched 50 First Dates. I even got a stuffed walrus after the date. Then when it came out on DVD, I got it immediately.

I couldn't stand returning the movie after watching it. Movies are memories. I cherish each one. If it's not worth remembering, it isn't worth buying to me.

Now, I know that not every movie you watch is one that you'll want to enjoy over and over and over. Then why even waste time watching them once?

Movie lovers may be surprised to find that there is this strange thing called reading out there.

Read a review; get some other opinions; know what you like. In the end, you'll only need to purchase the movies that fit your taste.

My movie collection isn't minimal. I own my favorites and then some. I think it's important to have a movie for each occasion without having to find my debit card or wait for the mailman.

I could quote something from almost every classic Disney movie made. I'm not ashamed to say I dominate Disney Scene It, or sing these show tunes at the top of my lungs in the shower. It only makes me the coolest person in the world to my niece. I'm proud of that.

Add to my love of singing, my love of musicals. My roommate and I hope to one day have a reality show about our lives as musicals. Singing makes me happy. So watching people sing definitely hits my top-ten list when I'm buying movies.

Each movie means something to me. Reminds me of someone important to me. I refuse to pay to watch each time I want to rekindle one of those memories.
