It’s all about opportunities

This time last year, I was watching members of the Braves football team move my precious junk into the dorms. I was pumped, and nervous, but excited to finally be on my own.

I also came to OU last fall with a pretty solid grasp of what I wanted to do with my life. But as the year continued, I wasn't too sure what it was that I wanted to do. And for some reason, I really liked that feeling.

I've been challenged by OU, and it's a good feeling.

If I still was that girl who knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life, I wouldn't have grown or developed as a student. I wouldn't have been challenged as a person, wouldn't have been open for that ‘something new.'

A year later, I found myself without guidance moving in (unless you count the elevator as help) and am dreading getting up at 8 a.m. to start my days. I've added an additional workload to my 17-hour schedule, and will be a happy faced RA in Martin Hall.

I still want to write, still want to get paid for going to shows. But now I'm thinking about promotions, advertising, and maybe even radio. My mind is spinning right now just thinking about it.

I'm optimistic, and open to the opportunities that Ottawa University has given me. In the communication department,

I got to do a lot of things I never thought I'd be given the chance to do, and it's made me rethink what I want in terms of my degree.

I believe that's how everyone should be in college. Not lost, but searching. If we all knew what we wanted to do with our lives, there wouldn't be a curriculum of ‘breadth' classes we have to take.

At first, all the extra classes were frustrating, and I saw them as a waste of time, but now I'm intrigued and happy to be taking them (well, most of them, anyway.)

I'm not freaking out about not knowing what I want to do with my life. Who knows, maybe I'll have an epiphany over breakfast one morning. For now, I'm enjoying my time here and being open to everything around me. After all, that's what college life is all about.
