Renovation Series: Bennett Hall
Out of all the living opportunities on campus, this residence hall would probably be voted as the most beloved. Bennett Hall is the closest residence hall to the Hetrick Bistro, it’s socially nicer than Brown Hall, but has considerably less suit-mates than Martin Hall. Bennett is on 9th street and next door neighbors to Brown Hall.
For a little history lesson, Bennett was opened in the year 2000. The hall got its name in 2003, named to honor former Ottawa University Trustee Ransom Bennett. Bennett Hall is a three-floor co-ed residence hall that houses approximately 158 students. Bennett offers suite-style living, where each suite has a common living room with a small kitchenette and double bedrooms. There can be up to four students in one suite, two in each room.
There were renovations done to Bennett to make it a better living environment, and just like Brown, the renovations aren’t fully completed yet This past summer, the west wing of the building was renovated. The east wing of the building will be renovated in the summer of 2020.
Those renovations weren’t as in depth as Brown Hall’s, but this is just because Bennett Hall isn’t as out-dated as Brown. The renovations added new furniture, painted the walls in the hallways and within the dorms, and some rooms were lucky enough to get updated showers..
There are six resident assistants that live there to help the students get through the school year: Leland McKinney, Joe Corbin, Oscar Palacios, Katie Martin, Luke Graham and Meghan Cubbinson. The resident director is Jay Pacha.
