Renovation Series: Brown Hall
I’m pretty sure all of you are familiar with the oldest residential hall on campus, Brown Hall. Some might call it Brown Hall, some might refer to it as Brown Town and some might even call it“Da Bricks.” But if you aren’t familiar with Brown Hall, here’s a quick run down. The location of the building is on the corner of 9th and Mulberry. Brown Hall is a three-floor, co-ed residence hall that houses approximately 179 students in traditional residence hall rooms.
Brown Hall opened in 1968 and is named after Dr. LuLu M. Brown, a 1907 alum who taught at the OU pre-collegiate Academy from 1909 until its closure in 1925, and was an assistant professor of English until 1954.
On each floor of the residence hall, there are two wings. On each wing, there is a gender-specific bathroom with showers. On each floor, there is a laundry room with two washers and two dryers. On the main floor, there is a study room, an office for the six resident assistants and a kitchen. There is also a lounge that has a pool table, ping pong table and a 32 inch flat screen television.
Currently, there are renovations still being made. This past summer, Loyld Builders started their work on the renovations. They added carpet in the hallways, new windows in each room and a new air conditioning unit in each room. There is also new furniture inside each room (twin bed, wardrobe closet, desk and chair) and new community restrooms with up-to-date appliances inside of them. The renovations that were completed this past summer only happened to the north wing. Next summer, the south wing will be renovated so that Brown can be a better living and learning environment for the student body.
There are six Resident Assistants (RAs) in Brown to help students get through the school year. The RAs for Brown are Colby Johnson, Bryanna Houser, Cesar Villanueva, Jeremiah Arellano, Kaitlyn George and Nate Hamilton. Christian Abenes is the Resident Director.
