With summer approaching, it gives us time to relax and do fun things with our friends and family. When you aren’t working in order to afford all the school year expenses and crazy tuition prices, here are a few things you can do this summer to have fun.

  1. Go to an amusement park. Roller-coasters are fun and exhilarating. This whole year, you were wishing you could do something other than stress to get your heart pumping; here’s your chance. Check out Worlds of Fun or another amusement park near your house to let out your suppressed stress screams.

  1. Go to a water park, beach or lake. You have been cooped up in your prison cell -- I mean dorm room -- for months. Get outside and enjoy the sunshine. It’s good for your health! But don’t forget the sunscreen: sunburns SUCK!!

  1. Go shopping. There are bound to be some rainy days this summer, so hit the local mall or your favorite store for some retail therapy. This year has been stressful and hard, treat yourself by taking yourself shopping and getting some new summer outfits.

  1. Visit your hometown friends. You’ve been watching all their festivities through Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook the whole year, so go out to lunch and catch up with them! Just because you guys go to different schools doesn’t mean your friendship needs to end.

  1. Hang out with your family. They love and miss you a lot while you’re away at school. Spend time with them and put your phone down while you’re doing it. You only have so much time with them while you’re home.

  1. Do something crazy. Get a tattoo or a piercing, go skydiving or snorkeling, etc. Make memories and have fun while you’re home on break. The summer is short so do something that you will have fun doing and remember forever.

  1. Pick up that extra shift at work. You may love your job, or you may hate it. Whichever it is, take that extra shift. You will thank yourself mid-March when you have money still.

  1. Visit your college friends. The summer is only a few months long, but when you’re away for a bit, it feels like forever. Take a roadtrip and go see your college friends.

  1. Give things you don’t use away. Whether it be clothes or household items, clean up! One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Have fun and enjoy it! The summer is short so make every day count. If you need a mental health day, TAKE IT! The summer is your time to unwind and get rejuvenated for what is ahead.
