Spring Season Overview
Could we even consider this semester Spring? I believe that I could count on one hand the number of times I got to wear shorts during the day.
Despite these unusual weather conditions, the show must go on!
The bipolar weather conditions may have stopped us from wearing spring clothing, but it did not stop Braves athletics from going out and competing in their respective sports.
Luckily, one team had the privilege of solely playing indoors, that is Men’s Volleyball. OU Braves Men’s Volleyball team is currently ranked third in the nation, posting a record of 21-7 overall and a 9-3 record in conference.
Despite losing to the number one ranked team in the nation at the KCAC tournament finals, the Braves still qualified for the National Championship, held in Des Moines, Iowa.
OU Braves left for Des Moines on April 16. Braves were placed in Pool B, along with; (#2) Grand View, (#6) Benedictine-Mesa and (#7) Cardinal Stritch.
Their pool play schedule is as follows;
April 17 Match 3 - 4 p.m. |
No. 3 Ottawa (Kan.) vs. No. 6 Benedictine - Mesa (Ariz.) |
April 18 Match 3 - 4 p.m. |
No. 3 Ottawa (Kan.) vs. No. 7 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) |
April 19 Match 4 - 7 p.m. |
No. 2 Grand View (Iowa) vs. No. 3 Ottawa (Kan.) |
Braves need to finish in the top two of their pool to move onto the Semifinal game on April 20 and Final game on April 21.
While the Men’s Volleyball team is enjoying the comfort of playing indoors, other spring sports teams struggle with the unusual weather conditions, having to adapt to games being postponed and rescheduled.
OU Softball is currently ranked number 24 in the recent NAIA Softball top 25 poll, with an overall record of 26-12 and conference record of 9-5. They are currently standing in forth in the KCAC rankings, despite being a series behind conference leaders Tabor College.
Softball takes on Bethel College in a double header on April 16 on home soil at 2 p.m.
OU Baseball currently sits at fifth place in the KCAC standings, and is also a series behind leaders (#6) Oklahoma Wesleyan. The team has an overall record of 13-21 and a KCAC record of 10-11.
Baseball also plays on April 16, but away to the York College Panthers at 3 p.m.
Men’s Lacrosse is sitting at sixth in the KCAC standings, posting an overall record of 4-5 and 1-3 conference record. They go on to play Columbia College on April 17, as they look to continue their three-game winning streak.
Women’s Lacrosse is sitting at forth in the KCAC standings, with an overall record of 5-6 and a 3-3 record in conference play. Their next game is at home on April 20, against Ave Maria University at 6 p.m.
Women’s Tennis is currently sitting fifth in the KCAC standings, posting .500 records overall and in conference. The team is 9-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Men’s team sits in third, posting records of 10-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Both teams will start the week playing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday against Oklahoma Wesleyan, Bethel College and Sterling College respectively.
As seasons are coming down to the most important games, matches and series, let’s continue our support of our fellow Braves as they continue to push through the unusual weather conditions.
