Top 10 Meals in the Café

As we reach the point of continuous café food, here are a few of my favorite meals that usually turn over a few times throughout the semester.

1. Breakfast Burrito – Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., you can custom make your burrito, panini, or omelet with a variety of meats and peppers. You can also have either a biscuit or, my favorite, diced potatoes.

2. Chicken Fried Steak – Fried meat served with corn and skinless mashed potatoes loaded with gravy is always a crowd favorite.

3. Chicken Nuggets – Channeling our inner kid requires some chicken nuggets served with a heap of mac and cheese and your choice of a small variety of dipping sauces.

4. Loaded Baked Potato Soup and Side Salad – Might be the healthiest option on the list, but loaded baked potato soup with some shredded cheese on top goes extremely well with the salad bar, which holds an array of salad topping options.

5. Buffalo Chicken Wrap – As simple as buffalo chicken, lettuce, tomato and ranch wrapped in a tortilla, this served with crispy potato chips combines for a ,well-rounded meal.

6. Lasagna – The first Italian dish to make the list, lasagne is usually served with a steamed vegetable (carrots or broccoli) and a piece of garlic bread.

7. Chicken Bowl – Similar to the KFC chicken bowl, the mashed potatoes topped with corn, chicken bites and cheese bowl is even better when you throw some hot sauce on top for a little extra kick.

8. Burrito Line – Another food item you would see at the popular Mexican restaurant chain Chipotle is the burrito line. With your choice of chicken or beef, rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, guacamole (not extra), sour cream and salsa, it’s like having Chipotle without driving 20-plus minutes.

9. Bread Bowl Soup – Start with the bread bowl and choose your choice of soup, which is usually loaded baked potato or chicken noodle. It's a fan favorite and similar to what many would find at a Panera Bread restaurant.

10. Pulled Pork Sandwich – Bringing the Kansas City BBQ to Ottawa, the pulled pork sandwich is a favorite especially when served with baked beans and carrots to complete a balanced meal.
