Best Places to Nap on Campus
Every commuter feels completely exhausted at some point, and being miles from home is not helpful. What do you do when you have large gaps in between classes, but you live an hour away? You designate a napping spot and live there.
There are some great spots to nap around campus. Are they comfy? Sometimes. Are they efficient? Absolutely.
Here are the top spots to get a few Z’s in between classes, or in between final study sessions on campus.
1. The Meditation Chapel
This spot is absolutely perfect. When you first enter the chapel (on the far right entrance), take a left into the large, beautiful doors and you will find a large, air-conditioned room. This room is primarily used as rehearsal space for the various bands across campus and sometimes for chapel meetings. The times that they are not used are perfect for a dark snooze. Simply turn off the lights, lie down on the bench and dream well, champion.
2. The Chapel Sanctuary
When you walk into the main entrance of the chapel, a large, empty, dark room full of soft chairs that are yours to indulge in will greet you. Simply bring a backpack, or anything soft, to lie your head down on and enjoy the cushioned chairs for a few brief moments before reality sets in that you have 19,000 projects and papers to complete. Ignore reality just a little while longer and dream of soft things because … you deserve it.
3. The Practice Rooms
When all else fails, the individual practice rooms – in the left side room of the chapel’s sanctuary – can offer you mild comfort. If the sanctuary and the Meditation Chapel are all in use, the practice rooms have carpeted floors that are a little better than lying on concrete. The best thing about these rooms is that they are soundproof! So, not only can you enjoy a peaceful slumber, you don’t have to worry about anyone hearing the night horrors that come from dreaming about the amount of work you have to do this next week.
4. Above the Library
Outside of the new conference centers is an open area full of cushioned chairs. There is usually no one in this area, unless it is evening or a scheduled event. If putting two chairs together is not your cup of tea, the floors are also carpeted! Put on your headphones, lie down and ignore the constant beating of your mind telling you to be more productive.
5. The Pelton Lounge
Not only does this room have a sofa that extends along the entire wall, it also has a television. You can slowly drift to sleep while watching “Catfish” on MTV, just like back home. The only downfall is that the room outside of the television area is usually filled with various groups playing pool or ping pong, so bring headphones, just in case.
6. Your Car
Let’s be honest: We’ve all slept in our car instead of taking the trip home. Put your seat back, cover yourself up with your coat, block out the windows and enjoy a nice, peaceful slumber in the most comfortable spot on campus.
Finals week is coming up, and you will be spending more time on campus than ever before. As you conclude your semester, remember these few spots on campus and take a well-deserved break every now and again.
And don’t drive while you’re tired. Be safe and take a brisk nap before you head home if you keep nodding off. Safety first!
