Ottawa University’s fourth annual Student Palooza will once again mark the end of another year.

The event will take place in the Mabee Center on Thursday, May 7, from 2 to 7 p.m. and is set to provide fun and games for stressed students before finals.

“Student Senate wanted to provide students with fun activities to release stress, with it being the end of the year,” Susan Webb, director of career services, stated. “There’s a theme. The student life committee within Student Senate came up with the activities.”

“We’ve been planning for about three months now and have rented a 30 ft. Slip N’ Slide with a foam pit at the end, a 24 ft. Rock Climbing Wall, Bungee Jump, Mechanical Bull/Surfboard, Bounce Castle, and much more,” Student Senate secretary Jacob McMillian, freshman double major in business and education, said. “There will also be a picnic-style dinner—complete with wings, fried chicken, potato salad, ice cream and funnel cakes.”

Student Senate President Shawn Stottlemire, senior business administration major, believes that the event will be a hit this year thanks to the group’s hard work.

Stottlemire describes the event as difficult to pull off “due to purchasing of shirts, buying rights to see a movie, contacting the inflatable games distributor, along with coordinating our efforts with Sodexho and the university radio station to provide the best atmosphere for the event.”

Maya Short, freshman psychology major, is new to the school and excited to attend Student Palooza for first time.

“I really want a sweet t-shirt and I’m ready to play some super fun games, which will definitely help me to not think about finals,” Short said.

This will be the last year senior Kelly Karamme, business administration major, will be able to attend the event and she’s going to miss the memories.

“The past Student Palooza was really fun and the games really helped release stress during finals,” Karamme said. “As a senior, I’ll miss all of the campus events and Student Palooza will definitely be one to always remember.”

Students are always trying to find ways to cope with the stress of the end of the year, especially during finals, and Student Palooza may just do the trick.

“I just hope that a lot of students will come out and have a great time at Student Palooza this year because, as Student Senate, we want to reward our constituents for a great year at Ottawa University,” Stottlemire said.
