A review of Marina and the Diamonds' new album

Marina and the Diamonds released her third studio album titled “Froot” on March 16.

Marina Diamandis, lead singer and songwriter, continues the social commentary that is presented in her past albums with songs like “Savages,” saying, “I am not afraid of God, I am afraid of man.”

Diamandis is admired for her witty banter throughout her music as presented in “Electra Heart,” an album following the narrative of the archetypes of young women.

There are a variety of musical styles presented in the album. Diamandis has a certain tone and unique quality to her voice but has that tone explained through a wide array of instrumentals.

“Better Than That,” is reminiscent of the musical style of a noir genre film. The upbeat song has the feeling of an action packed film following the femme fatale.

“Froot,” also contains extremely passionate ballads such as “Happy.” This song is not to be mistaken for Pharrell’s, and it is the complete opposite of his song. The song is a realization of what makes the singer happy and how it is malleable.

Other ballad titled “I’m a Ruin,” proves that Marina’s vocals are to die for. The smart, metaphoric melody features Diamandis’ beautiful vocals as well as a gorgeously sad but upbeat instrumental. It is songs like this one that make Marina and the Diamonds such a unique musical entity.

Uplifting and self-assuring pieces are also presented in the album with songs such as “Forget,” that urge the listener to forget past experiences because they do not matter, and that is not who you are anymore.

Another song along this message is “Can’t Pin Me Down.” The feminist and explicit satire with an upbeat undertone is essentially what makes Marina and the Diamonds, Marina and the Diamonds.

This critic was a bit worried with the release of her first single and album title “Froot.”

After listening to past songs and albums, there was a high hope for the third album that the song “Froot,” did not seem to meet. There was something about the disco-styled song that was somewhat unsettling at first.

Now that the third album is fully released, it is apparent how the song “Froot,” fits into the mix and it added a unique quality to the presale of the album with the “Froot of the month club,” that gave members a song a month as well as a corresponding fruit that represented each song.

Debuting as number 1 in plenty of countries around the world, including the United States, the “Froot” era of Marina and the Diamonds has begun, and it is looking bright.
