A Review of the "Waterbreaking" New Spongebob Movie
7/10 Krabby Patties.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water premiered this Friday in most theaters across the United States, bringing audiences of young and old to witness their current, or their old favorite cartoon star.
The film circled around the typical action within the cartoon: the Krabby Patty secret formula. Once the formula goes missing, Bikini Bottom goes into a post-apocalyptic meltdown that brings the entire city to the ground.
America’s favorite little yellow sponge then goes on a wild adventure to find the formula and bring Bikini Bottom back to order.
Plankton, the villain of the series, ends up aiding SpongeBob while the population of Bikini Bottom goes on a Krabby Patty withdrawal rampage.
Every possible aspect of the old Spongebob charm was presented within the film. There were musical numbers, hilarious jokes from the main cast, and time travel, as well as “punny” comedy for adults and direct fart-or-fall-type humor for the children.
There were a few kinks that should have been worked out. First, the title of the film does not attribute too much of what happens.
Most of the film is spent underwater, leaving the last twenty or so minutes to let the heroes go on their Avengers-style rescue mission. There was also an extremely eerie sacrifice scene that is reminiscent of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem.
Other than the few little things present throughout the film, it was a fun time. Audiences finally learned about the origin of the opening theme song pirate played by Antonio Banderas.
Classic SpongeBob charm was present throughout the film, and it was even a little nostalgic. At the end of the film the theme song began playing and children (and adults too) began singing along.
Whether spending a day with children, or even just going for the fun of it, the film was well delivered and an overall great time. It is money and time well spent.
