Off-Season Conditioning

If you have been anywhere near the Hull Center for Athletics this semester you have surely heard the crashes, grunts, and crowds of people in the weight room for off-season conditioning.

In addition to all of the winter sports getting some lifts in, there always seems to be a mob of other teams occupying the weight room.

After the last whistle sounds for the season some might think that it is all over until next year. That is false. Almost immediately coming back from break, fall athletes are grinding to get better in the offseason.

The gains made in the weight room now are what are going to put teams over the top when next fall rolls around.

Perhaps the most prominent of these weight room junkies are the football players. Their workout routines are carefully structured to specific needs required by this sport.

Being the largest team on campus, their occupation of the weight room can sometimes be overwhelming, but in the end everyone in there is just trying to get better, so there cannot be much complaint.

In addition to the droves of football players, the baseball and softball teams have been seen prowling the cages and benches. Although they are not a fall sport, baseball and softball have been doing plenty of last minute tune-up work to prepare for their seasons.

By maintaining strength and flexibility, athletes are preventing possible future injuries. The limited space in the weight room is a small price to pay for a healthier, and happier campus.
