Five OU All-American football players named
After claiming the 2009 Kansas Christian Athletic Conference title, Ottawa University had five football players named to the College Fanz 2009 All-American Honors list.
Sophomore Clarence Anderson, and seniors Taylor Burnett, Ross Diehl, Ethan Haller and Corey Schultz each tallied votes for the award.
The youngest to win the award, Anderson feels great accomplishment in earning the pride.
"It means a lot to me because soming out of high school I was told I wouldn't play college football anywhere," Anderson said. "I was blessed with the opportunity to play here and I got here through hard work and trying to be a coachable player."
Despite the honor, the players credit their teammates for much of their success.
"Our goals have always been the same, win each week," Haller said. "If we focused on that, we were okay."
Schultz believes that help came from all corners of his life.
"I got here with a lot of help from family and friends," Schultz said. "The accomplishment is a team recognition because I get awards when other guys are doing their job great with little or no recognition. I'm happy to represent them."
As a senior, Schultz believes the season was really special.
"For five of us to recieve national honors and coach to be recognized really capped off a great senior season," Schultz said.
The five players combined for seven offensive and defensive KCAC player of the week honors and broke a total of 14 school records and tying one.
