Braves take on first pre-season game

Jamison Shaw says the team seemed out of shape at the College Fanz First Down Classic.

"We showed we were not in game shape, and the fourth quarter proved that," Shaw said.

But Shaw, senior defensive lineman, said the team still played pretty well in Platte City, Mo., considering it only has been practicing for two weeks.

The team came out victorious over McKendree University in the first game of the season. The Braves controlled for the whole game.

Senior tight-end Taylor Burnett said spirit was a big part of the McKendree game.

"Everybody was fired up and ready to play against a team other than ourselves," Burnett said. "It was the first game so all the guys and coaches are really excited to get out there."

He believes that one key to their success so far is that their motto this year is take one game at a time. He feels that if they properly prepare for each team adequately each week they will have a great season and could even win the conference.
