Something Corporate takes back stage

To some people, a certain band or song symbolizes memories of a time in their life they can't forget.

Something Corporate is that band for me. When the group disbanded, I never thought I'd get the chance to see them live. After a while of waiting, I finally did.

This show was nothing like I expected - it was so much better. From the moment they hit the stage at Uptown Theatre with the song ‘Straw Dog,' I felt as if I was in high school again, screaming these songs from the top of my lungs.

Following the lead song with a fan favorite ‘Space,' I knew I was in for a good night. And while I could've done without the drunken, sweaty, shirtless guy next to me, I'd say it was one of the best shows I've been to.

Andrew McMahon, lead singer, made it clear in the middle of this set that this was a reunion tour, not a reunion of the band quite yet.

And for that night, it was good enough for me. Hearing some of these songs live (‘Watch The Sky,' ‘Globes and Maps,' ‘Hurricane') took me back to moments I can't forget.

I don't think I've seen such a great reaction to a song live as I have with the song ‘Punk Rock Princess.' Another fan favorite, Andrew smiled as he confessed to the crowd it was good to be playing these songs again since disbanding and starting a new project. (Jack's Mannequin.)

Since I sadly do not have musical talent (unless listening to it or guitar hero counts), I thought about how this is like riding a bike. It was pretty much my favorite thing to do when I was younger before I discovered climbing trees and street hockey.

When I gave up the wheels for other interests, it's not like I forgot how to ride a bike - I just needed a break to pursue other interests before getting back on again.

This was also, hands down, the best encore I've ever seen at a show. They started this 3-song encore with the song ‘Konstantine,' a 9-minute intimate song full of confessions and catharsis.

I can't say I've heard many songs that sound ‘beautiful' live, but this is that song.

Ending the set with the song ‘If You C Jordan,' the show ended just as it started. About 500 kids on the floor of the Uptown Theatre, belting the song out as if they were Andrew McMahon himself.
