Politicians should be held to promises, supervised

The American presidential elections will be held in less than a month. They are a crucial moment for the future of the country.

When we choose who will govern our city, state or country, there are several values or beliefs that make us choose one option or the other.

But how much should we really trust our politicians?

Politicians are experts on how to talk to people and persuade them to vote for their proposals, but how many of those utopic proposals do they really accomplish?

It is not a secret that they do not do most of what they promise. And it does not happen only in the United States.

All around the world politicians engage people with their professional campaigns and then fail to follow their plans.

The problem is not even whom we are voting for. Regardless of who the candidates and their parties are, they will lie at some point.

Our task as citizens is to think about what we can do about it. Maybe it is time for a change in our systems.

It is hard to imagine a different scenario for the next couple years, but maybe we can make something to change for our next generations.

Politicians are in power because of us and if they are not doing what they promised, we can do something about it. We should be able to regulate them.

A method in which all the promises made by the candidates in the campaign turn into laws as soon as the candidate is elected can be an interesting option.

The congress must participate in the process of writing the final law. This would change the way politicians take care of their words.

Likewise, we can suggest the creation of a system, in which if the elected candidates do not do what they said they were going to do, they lose their post.

A committee made up by judges or by a randomly selected jury can be in charge of making this decision.

Whoever your choice is for this next election, do not be satisfied only because he won. Keep track of his job and denounce him if he is not following whatever he proposed. Make them feel how much you care about the issues surrounding your daily life.

As with all the problems we have around us, the change we want starts with ourselves.
