Parallel universe prevents lying
The "Invention of Lying" is suppose to be a hilarious comedy based on the theme where people lived in an alternate reality where dishonesty did not take place.
The movie was co-written and co-directed by Ricky Gervais who is the main character in the movie and Matthew Robinson. The movie was released Oct. 2 to the U.S. public. It's rated PG-13 and is only runs 99 minutes. The cast main stars for this film are Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner.
Award-winning Ricky Gervais plays a man named Mark Bellison who is your normal overweight guy who has a crappy job as a lecture film writer.
Bellison ends up losing his job because of the lack of interest in his films by viewers and also comes up short on rent for his home.
Then he goes to the bank where the first lie happened which he told the teller he had more money in the bank than he actually did so the teller gave him the money because he thought it was a computer error.
So in this parallel universe, Bellison developed the ability to lie and continued to test his lies to the limit after what happened in the bank. That's when he begins lying his way to fame and fortune and things begin to get out of hand.
After watching "The Invention of Lying," I ended up liking the concept of the movie because it was different from other comedies that I've seen previously.
I found it interesting how no one could lie and how Bellison learned how to lie and use it to his advantage to get him through his boring life. And I also was amazed how he could lie his way through everything except to the heart of the woman of his dreams who is played by Garner.
There were also a lot of funny scenes during the beginning of the movie before it tried to make a transition into a romantic comedy.
There also was some dislikes that I had with the movie The Invention of Lying such as the transition of hilarious comedy to a more romantic comedy after the first hour or so.
I also disliked how it insulted people who have a religion. I also dislike that after watching the film you can come to the conclusion that religion is the invention of lying.
During the movie there was a scene where Bellison explained Christianity as the reason for the universe and the movie goes off that. It mocked Christianity throughout the film.
I give the movie just a thumbs up for the concept of the movie and funny scenes at the beginning of the movie. But if you are a true Ricky Gervais fan, you might think otherwise of the film that he wrote and directed.
The movie will have you laughing at the first half and then turns into just your typical romantic flick. But it's not a bad movie for the most part.
