Bringing in year-round fashion and style
On campus, many people wear sweats, others dress up.
Sophomore Amy Hastings likes to dress up more on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays because she has more classes on those days.
“It takes me anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour to get ready,” Hastings said. “Doing my hair takes up most of my time.”
Like Hastings, sophomore Chelsea Fullerton takes her time with her hair.
“It usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get ready if I’m trying to dress up,” Fullerton said. “It takes me the longest to do my hair.”
Freshman Kimisha Peterson said she almost always dresses up for class. Each day she goes by an interesting daily routine.
“I’ll get up, wash my face, go eat, get dressed, go back to sleep, wake up again, finish my outfit and then do my make-up,” she said.
Hastings said she is really into baggy shirts, oversized t-shirts and sweaters. She likes to look at how other people dress, as well as gathering ideas from Pinterest.
“I’m really into the fall fashion. I love all of my clothes that are for the fall,” Hastings said. “I really look to Zooey Deschanel for fashion ideas, and I also look at everyone else’s clothes and try to get ideas from them.”
Getting ideas for outfits comes easily for Peterson.
“I get ideas from an app called Pose,” Peterson said. “It’s like an Instagram for fashion; designers can have their own pages, but then you can also make your own and put up pictures when you’re wearing cute outfits.”
Hastings said shoes are her favorite accessory.
“I love boots,” Hastings said. “I have a pair of moccasin boots that I’m just waiting to bring out.”
Hastings loves to shop at Forever 21, H&M, and lots of different thrift stores.
“I don’t think you have to pay to look good; I think you can find a good bargain anywhere,” Hastings said.
Peterson said she does not keep up with fashion, but she knows what she likes.
“I don’t really know what’s in style,” Peterson said. “But I do love skinny jeans.”
To make those outfits even better in the fall and winter, Peterson adds scarfs to her looks.
“I like the prints of scarfs, but I also like how it can dress up an outfit,” Peterson said.
Some of Peterson’s favorite stores include Rue 21, Shii, Forever 21, Body Central and Charlotte Ruse, which she said is good for heels.
When it comes to spending a lot on outfits, Peterson thinks it depends on the item.
“For shirts, I’m not going to pay much, but for jackets and shoes, I’ll pay extra,” Peterson said.
Fullerton also said she will pay more for things like jackets, or items of clothing she really enjoys. She said she does not dress up for classes for the most part, though.
“Whatever days I’m more energized are when I usually dress up,” Fullerton said.
Fullerton seeks to be out of the box when it comes to style; she is into seasonal styles more than anything.
“I really like sweaters and jackets,” she said.
Fullerton grew up in the country, so she tries to incorporate western into her style at times.12
