Spring break is not up to hype

By Joshua Vail

Many of us are looking forward to spring break.

This is normal. We want to spend some time out of school, maybe get away from our roommates, see our families, have some fun.

We're probably also looking forward to warmer weather.

The problem with this is that spring break sometimes isn't either.

Sometimes it doesn't even feel like spring. Judging by the weather lately, this could well be the case for spring break 2010.

The other problem is that often we have assignments over the break.

This is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it keeps your mind from going completely off school.

On the other hand, it keeps your mind from going completely off school.

Third, I'm pretty sure the man is kicking us out of the dorms. I understand why they do it, but I don't really like not having the choice between the dorms and my grandparents' house.

Nothing against my grandparents at all, just something against their ancient computer and lack of wi-fi, and the couch bed I have to sleep on.

So, I personally don't expect to enjoy spring break very much at all.

The one thing I have to look forward to is seeing some friends from Olathe.

I would rather hang out with my friends at OU, but of course they won't be here either.

I think the times we spend with them will be much more fondly remembered than spring break. We'll all forget what spring break was like when it rolls around again next year.

So don't look forward to spring break.

Look forward to lunch. Look forward to sitting down and eating that horrible cafeteria food with your friends.

Look forward to going to class, it's going to be the easiest ‘job' you'll have until you retire.

Look forward to the weekend. It comes every week instead of annually. And the hype is pretty low-key so you're probably not going to end up disappointed.
