Seabolt: Coffee America’s drink despite health risks
You wake up and you feel groggy. you have class in an hour, and what do you do to wake up?
You go get some coffee, your pick-me-up for the day.
According to a recent coffee statistics report, Americans consume an average of 400 cups of coffee each day, or 146 billion cups a year!
Coffee has become the most popular morning drink in America. Although the drink is a great way to wake up in the morning, how healthy can it be to drink it all the time?
A plain 8 oz. cup of coffee has 135 mg of caffeine in it. Caffeine, although not commonly referred to as a drug, is. Like many drugs, it's addictive.
It is not bad to drink coffee every now and then, but too much caffeine over a long period of time can cause bone loss and has been linked to heart disease.
Coffee has been commonly used to ease pressure in apprehensive situations.
America has formed many social events around a cup of coffee, and it has ultimately become the drink of America.
Where Great Britain has tea, we Americans have coffee. It seems that anymore, to offer someone a cup of coffee is common courtesy and is expected in many social settings.
How did this tradition get started, who knows, but despite the health risks, and the knowledge of them, people still drink coffee daily, and, most often than not, drinks more than a cup a day. There are thousands of breweries, coffee shops, and bookstores that offer coffee, all around America.
Because of the average American's growing demand for coffee, coffee sales have grown remarkably. Coffee is one of the highest selling drinks in America, and its popularity is still growing each year.
As more of the population matures to the refined taste of coffee, there becomes an even greater demand for the hot drink, in any form it may come in.
On top of the regular, black, cup of coffee, there are many other ways to drink it ranging from just cream and sugar all the way to lattes and frappachinos.
All these types, being equally addictive, have shaped any individual person.
Someone's specific way of drinking coffee, has become a part of their person, a part of who they are.
Coffee, whether it is from a home coffee maker or the Starbuck's down the street, has molded America and defined its people in their everyday routines and preferences.
Whether it is realized or not, coffee has been playing a big role in the way young Americans grow, act, and perform tasks, and despite the health risks, it has become the drink of drinks in America.
