Approaching the Halfway Point
Ottawa University is approaching the halfway mark in the semester … which means midterms. This time in the semester can be very stressful for students because of the amount of course work, new classes, exams, finalizing next semester and, for some students, finding their next step in life.
However, the halfway mark does not have to be all negative, we can continue to remind ourselves that fall break is only a few short weeks away, and that we are halfway done.
Here are a few ways to recenter yourself at this halfway mark and push through the final weeks of the semester.
-
Reward yourself. You made it halfway through the semester, reward yourself with a small present. This can be going out to dinner with friends, retail therapy or simply just doing some of your favorite things.
-
Reorganize and redecorate. It is good to have change, especially because it seems like a fresh start. Reorganizing your dorm, apartment, school supplies and more can help rewire your brain to prepare for the rest of the semester.
-
Find new study habits. Try something new when it comes to your studies, especially as we approach midterms and finals. Find a new habit such as study groups, flash cards, online studying or rewriting notes. Keep trying new habits and find one that works for you.
-
Change your lifestyle. If you are not happy with how your first half of the semester went, change it. Your lifestyle can be changed by finding new hobbies, pushing yourself to spend more time outside or changing the time you wake up everyday and your schedule.
These are just a few of the ways you can recenter yourself for this halfway mark. Remember that change can be good. Push yourself to try something new or find something that works for you. Remember, only eight more weeks left, you can do it!
