Profile of the Week: Reagan Lorey
The executive board for student government for the 2021-2022 school year was announced last week at the 2021 Spring Honors Convocation. Reagan Lorey, currently a junior at Ottawa University, ran for student body vice president and received enough votes from the student body to be elected.
Lorey is actively involved at the university; she is a third-year member of the bowling team, a member of the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and was active in the Theta Phi Alpha sorority.
“I joined student government this year to be a bigger part of things going on at OU,” Lorey says. “When elections started, I decided I wanted to have an even bigger role and help make changes here.”
Lorey is from Vancouver, Washington, a city 15 minutes north of Portland, Oregon. Ottawa is a 25-hour drive from Vancouver. Deciding to move halfway across the country at 18 years old is difficult, but Lorey was able to make it.
“I fell in love with the campus on my tour,” Lorey says. “I also came from a relatively small high school in my area, and the idea of OU also being a small campus, I knew there would be a sense of community. I love Ottawa for that.”
As a soon-to-be senior, Lorey knows exactly what she wants to change while she is vice president.
“I want to make sure every sport is getting recognition for what they accomplish,” Lorey says. “I think tennis, golf, softball, men’s volleyball, as well as all JV teams, need to be supported more. However, I think every sport should be supported somehow, and I plan on talking with the athletic directors in order to figure out how to go about that.”
Athletes make up a large percentage of the student body; however, there are other programs that students are involved in, such as the music and art departments.
“I would also like to help fill the audiences at performances for the music program,” Lorey says. “I also want to have the art department help with more things on campus.”
Lorey hopes to promote student involvement in all aspects of the campus.
“I’m excited to work with Dalton and the rest of the team to have a successful year!”
Lorey will be joining the executive board with president Dalton Sikes, secretary Jessamyn Mansfield and treasurer Brandon Tran for the 2021-2022 school year.
