Top five Netflix movies to watch during quarantine
Being stuck in quarantine is extremely boring. With nothing going on in the world, it’s time to kick back, relax and turn on Netflix. During these hard times, it is important to remember the small things in life that continue to bring us joy, like movies. I’m going to break down the top five movies you should be checking out on Netflix, so grab your popcorn and get ready for a movie marathon.
5. “The Shawshank Redemption” - 1994
This is an absolute classic. In one of his best performances ever, Morgan Freeman stars in a film about a group of men inside of Shawshank prison. The main character, Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins), is wrongly convicted of murdering his wife. He is given life in prison, and that is where he meets Freeman's character, who goes by the name “Red.” In the film you are shown the horrors that come along with being in prison, but you also get to see the lifelong relationships that are built between the characters. When the final credits roll across the screen for this movie, you can’t help but smile as you see the main characters come together as free men. “The Shawshank Redemption” is a must watch.
4. “Inception” - 2010
“Inception” is easily one of the most unique movies that has ever been made. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a thief who has a special power: he is able to enter people's dreams and steal their ideas through their subconcious. While his powers can lead to great rewards, it also puts him through adversity, and it ends up costing him everything he loves. If you love watching character development throughout a film, this is the perfect movie for you. This film delivers on suspense and incredible dialogue. Overall, inception is a movie that everyone should check out.
3. “The Other Guys” - 2010
When any movie has a cast that includes Will Ferrell, you know that you are going to be in for a good laugh, and that is exactly what this movie does. “The Other Guys” is a buddy cop film that stars Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg. The chemistry between these two screams comedy perfection as we watch the two bust bad guys on the streets. There is a big theme of irony in this movie that is hilarious, and just like in “Inception,” it includes some fantastic dialogue. While this film is not meant to be taken in a serious way, it is still something worth checking out if you are wanting to watch a solid comedy film.
2. “Gerald's Game” - 2017
“Gerald's Game” captures the theme of suspense in a perfect way. This film will leave you on the edge of your seat from the moment you press play. It tells the story of a couple whose relationship is falling apart and to save the relationship, the couple goes on vacation in an attempt to bring back the spark they once had. During the vacation, one night everything goes terribly wrong and it becomes a fight for survival. This movie does so many brilliant things from casting to fantastic dialogue. If you are looking for a thriller, this film is an excellent choice.
1. "The Irishman" - 2019
From the opening scene to the dramatic finale, this movie is perfect. It does a beautiful job of telling its story and we see some of the best acting the movie world has ever seen. “The Irishman” is a story about a crime family from Pennsylvania and the toll their lifestyle takes on them, and the people around them. While we have seen these types of crime/mob films before, this film does it differently in a sense that it isn't just a story about crime lords. It really is a movie about values, with loyalty being the main one. The hidden messages that this movie tries to preach are incredible and really make you think about your life. “The Irishman” is easily the film that everyone must watch while we are all stuck inside.
Overall, those were the top five movies I recommend you should check out while stuck inside. With the world being in a pandemic, we have to try and keep things as normal as possible. Watching films like these can be an escape from reality and remind you that everything will be okay with time. I hope you enjoyed reading about these films and I hope you get to check them out.
