Not So Summer Lovin'
As summer starts to approach, flowers begin to bloom, the temperature raises (hopefully), and relationships begin to end. Just like how winter causes “cuffing season” (people starts relationships to cuddle up with due to the cold), summer causes break-up season.
In college, breakups are tough. Well, breakups are tough in general, but in college they’re different. For some people when it comes to breakups they are lost and don’t know what to do or how to act.
Before I get started, this is a warning my recommendations are NOT 100 percent effective, and if this happens to ruin your life in any capacity, I am not liable. But here are five steps to get over a break up:
Step 1: Just let it out in safe manner. Listen to the “Marvins Room” (Drake), “I Fall Apart” (Post Malone), “Not Gon’ Cry” (Mary J. Blige), “Burn” (Usher), “Call Out My Name” (The Weeknd). But avoid heading to Twitter to tweet out sad song lyrics.
Step 2: Now it’s time to hit that unfollow/block button. Can’t move on when you have constant reminders of them on your social media feed. Out of sight out of mind. This step can also be pushed to their friends, too. Guilty by association. No hard feelings, but hey try and avoid associating with the enemy right now.
Step 3: Now it’s time to begin occupying your mind. An idle mind is the devil’s playground. Starting with your body, it’s time to hit the gym. Working out has been proven to release chemicals in your body that can help treat pain and relive stress, and it never hurts to work on your “summer bod.”
Step 4: Mental health and peace. Find a good and trustworthy friend or parent to vent to who will also set you straight. Things won’t always go as planned, and sometimes you need to let it out. People are reluctant to admit it, but breakups can be messy and mess you up mentally, so don’t go through it alone.
Step 5: Begin to enjoy your new life. You are now free to tweet or post your Instagram photo with a caption you heard from a favorite song. GO BE HAPPY AND ENJOY THE SUMMER SUN!
